Humanity has long since split off into three distinct subgroups: Corp, Incarnate, and Gnost which could also be thought of as separate races. While all Gaians are born physiologically human, at the legal age of 21, each youth will be sent to “ASSIGNMENT”. This is a major life milestone which they would choose to become either; to activate the nanites or DNA of their parents or transition to another race of their choosing with the contributions of donors.

A large population of humans, designated “unaffiliated” chose not to take part in the genetic tampering or the technological implants championed by the Incarnate and the Corp. These ‘pure’ humans are actively recruited by the Gnost.
